Christmas then and Now
Christmas then and now
As the weather grows colder and Christmas is nigh,
We reflect on the year and how quick time goes by.
With Covid and lockdown we all became bored,
We think of the toilet rolls some used to hoard.
We think of the distances we had to keep,
And our only relief was when we were asleep.
Sometimes it would have us all down on our knees,
Some not able to see, the wood for the trees.
We hear on the news that Christmas will fail,
For shortage of imports of liquor and ale.
Toys not arriving to brighten the shops,
And a bad food shortage, oh when will it stop?
Let’s think about Christmas in a different mode,
In a way that will lighten our burden, our load.
Let’s think about Jesus our God and him born,
In a travellers stable that seemed so forlorn.
God born in that place in a manger to lie,
The King of all Kings whose aim was to die.
Rejoice this Christmas, give thanks to our King,
Praise Him and thank Him, for everything.
Eat, drink and make Merry on Christmas day,
But just don’t forget to take time out to pray.
