A Loyal Friend

I wrote a little poem recently about the joy that having a dog can bring. I am sure many of us can relate, especially during the last 18 months. Their love is unconditional.

A Loyal Friend

I have a little Schnauzer dog
She’s very cute you see
She’s sat here right beside me now
As close as she can be

She wakes up far too early
That’s the tricky part
She stares at me intensely
As she wills the day to start

Come on folks, please get up
And take me for a walk
I’ll trot along quite happily
Whilst you two have a talk

Please don’t forget to bring my ball
It gives me hours of pleasure
I’ll chase it to my heart’s content
Whilst you can walk at leisure

We’re home now and she seems fulfilled
And ready for her nap
But not until she’s had a treat
And fresh water from the tap

The day moves on, it’s time for tea
She’s looking so excited
She sits and waits so patiently
To eat when she’s invited

We’re sat down for the evening
And she jumps up for a cuddle
She doesn’t ask for much you see
She’s happy with a snuggle

Bedtime comes, she knows the drill
So, she scampers up to bed
I wish my loyal friend goodnight
And gently kiss her head.
