Anthems from the Summer of Love: 1967
Fifty-seven years ago, the so-called Summer of Love kicked off with one of the world’s first outdoor rock music festivals held in Monterey, California. Those who played included The Who, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding.
Here are just a few of our favourite Summer of Love anthems which we think perfectly encapsulate the optimistic mood of the summer of 1967:
San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair) – Scott McKenzie
All You Need is Love – The Beatles
A Whiter Shade of Pale – Procol Harum
I’m A Believer – The Monkees
Light My Fire – The Doors
Respect – Aretha Franklin
Do you remember the summer of 1967? Which are your favourite tracks from that time?
