No thrones

R.I.P. HRH Prince Philip

No thrones

There are no thrones in heaven, but you’re aware of that,
You have no need for sabres here or that gilding on your hat,
Your soul is what is wanted, your memory here too,
Your service to our Queen will earn our praise of you.

That crown you wore a life ago is but a memory,
Your history is credited by who you came to be,
Lifelong was your devotion, you walked two steps behind,
Your service to our Queen will hold you in our mind.

Our pride is on display in this for our adopted son,
Who lived a life of duty well and saw his duty done,
A backbone straight and stiffened when you heard that bugle call,
Your service to our Queen will bring a pride to all.

So lay your medals to the side, look down to us who mourn,
We mourn but are so proud of you and look towards the dawn,
For when history is written and when life begins anew,
Your service to our Queen will earn our praise of you.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
