Frustration
Frustration
The antique shop was open, so I ventured for wander,
In my pocket, lots of lovely money I could squander.
I hunted for my bargain there, for what seemed like an age,
Although patience was tested, I didn’t feel a rage.
Then suddenly like, there it was, before my very eyes,
A thing so rare the sight of it quite caught me by surprise.
I picked it up and fondled it as one might do a flower,
I had to take it home with me, within that very hour.
It was so cheap, I paid for it, without a haggled price,
I held it tightly in my hand the feeling very nice.
On journey home, upon the bus, I often took a peek,
I loved to own this tiny thing with a style that was so sleek.
A lady eyed it on the bus and gave approving nod,
I handled it with oh such care, as I would a gift from God.
I had never seen one quite like this, so beautiful and small,
In fact I never expected, ever, to see such one at all.
Arriving home, I placed it down, upon my old sideboard,
Inside of which you understand there was massive hoard.
Of items bought to sell to trade or just to own, to keep,
But my super new arrival, would deprive me of my sleep.
Over and over I stared at it, its’ beauty oh so great,
To see it the next morning, well, I really couldn’t wait.
And so my time to sleep was gone, I hadn’t slept a wink,
Should I keep or sell this thing, I really couldn’t think.
It was a great distraction, from my every move that day,
I almost wished, it would find legs, and go off on its’ way.
It was like a curse, was interfering, with my every thought,
This lovely thing, which now I wished, that I had never bought.
I took it from its’ resting place, my agitation great,
To move it on to someone else, I really couldn’t wait.
But after lunch I decided, after downing some lambs liver,
To take it out…. across the road… and chuck it in the river.
As far as I know, it lies there still, its’ beauty ever hid,
Getting rid was sensible, and I’m so glad I did.
I suppose the current took it out and dropped it in the sea,
And all that I am left with, is a strange mixed memory.
I’ll not forget that lovely thing, which I owned for a short while,
And now whenever I think of it I have a little smile.
Ah you ask, what was this thing? that brought such joy sublime,
It is a hard thing to relate…. but I’ll tell you some other time!!!
