Homeward Bound

I really miss the U3a writing group. We do zoom meetings which I enjoy but it’s not comparable to face to face and I found this I wrote nine years ago which reminded me of one of the reasons.

Homeward Bound

When writing class is over and the pens all laid aside
A very caring Susan says, would you lot like a ride
We’re a very friendly group, you could say we are quite close
If contagious things are flying round we all may get a dose

So…in the front and quite sedate, sits a prim and proper Kate
Whilst in the back, alas alack… it’s a very different tack
It’s move over Diana you’re not sitting on my knee
Meanwhile, take that clip out ‘cos that strap belongs to me

Excuse me whilst I ferret just beneath your rear
If I poke around a bit my seatbelt should appear
Shove up a bit now Wendy, you really are a tease
Could you recommend a spot for me to stow my knees?

What have you got it that there bag, it really weighs a ton
Poking in my ribs like that I don’t call it much fun
Must you put your brolly there you know it’s dripping wet
(We all got soaked while getting there and haven’t dried out yet)

Has this car got a roof rack, someone could sit up there
Take in all the scenery and get a little air
As outside’s damp this squirming mass, steams up the auto’s vital glass
Sue wipes the windows and her brow, silently she swears a vow
Next vehicle will be, with luck, a four-wheeled, heavy-duty truck

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
