( COVID )

Please can I have my say on this plague-ridden day,
Can I tell you how I feel,
This Pandemic will grow and as far as I know,
When you are dead, – it’s for real.

I see our own NHS in a terrible mess,
As they battle with all of their might,
All heroes in here as they face their own fear,
and many a mindset to fight.

Now a vaccine is found but too many around,
Voice against this with scaremonger’s word,
Spreading worry and woe wherever they go,
On a scale that is daft and absurd.

Now let me tell you true what this laddie will do,
And I will give you no cause for alarm,
When they ask me that day this is what I will say,
While exposing the top of my arm.

“STICK THE NEEDLE IN ME and thank you most sincere,
For calling me to have this, for letting me come here,
My gratitude is endless I will not shy away,
STICK THE NEEDLE IN ME DO IT NOW, TODAY!”

That’s it now I’ve told you my feelings straight and true,
And you must make your mind up to what you will do,
Our life is ours to treasure and we must not digress,
So, ‘STICK THE NEEDLE IN ME’ – God Bless the NHS.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
