Dry January – Part One

Dry January – Part One

January will be dry,
At least it will for me,
I hope to occupy myself,
With other stuff you see.

I’ve made a little list just now
Of things I like to do,
It’s called replacement therapy,
And it’s cheaper too.

There’s potting lots of seedlings,
Getting out for walks,
I also plan to learn to draw
With pastels and with chalks.

So as I raise a glass to you,
On this New Year’s Day,
It’s just a glass of water, as
I’ve thrown the booze away!

"My interest in poetry was rekindled in November 2017 when I was launching a literary trail on the Isle of Wight. The event was held at Farringford, the home of Alfred Lord Tennyson, and I read “Crossing the Bar" at the event. At the same time I was creating a tie-in with Michael Rosen’s children’s story “We’re going on a Bear Hunt” for a family trail the following Spring. Immersed as I was in the subject matter at the time, I started to think about writing poetry myself". Four years later I am reading and writing more poetry than ever before. I have a Facebook page and a website where I showcase my work and seek out comments from my followers to improve my future work.
