The Problem

Christmas dinner is a winner,
But it comes at a price,
You see, it leaves me with some `Flatulence`,
And that isn’t very nice.

It’s not the `taters and turkey,
It’s not the Christmas pud,
It’s the ruddy sprouts and stuffing,
I don’t handle them very good.

Now, I know they’re `gonna get me,
And I try to be discreet,
So when I feel one moving,
I cough or shuffle my feet.

But sometimes I’m not ready,
And I’m caught off my guard,
Then looking for excuses,
Is very, very hard.

Last year while I was sitting,
With a book upon my lap,
A `corker` did escape me,
And it blew off me Son- in-Laws cap.

But this year I will defeat it,
And to satisfy my bride,
I will eat my Christmas dinner,
And spend the next 2 hours outside.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
