These Covid Days
Remember ‘Those Were The Days’ by the lovely Mary Hopkin?
If you do, sing along with these words which I wrote at the start of this Covid trouble, in March. Little did we know that all these months on the situation would still be pretty much the same.
These Covid Days
Once upon a time there was a Tavern,
Where we used to raise a glass or two.
Now the pubs and restaurants are all shut
And cafes, oh what are we to do…….?
These Covid days, my friend,
We think they’ll never end.
We’re cooped-up in our homes all day and night.
Except to walk the hound,
His legs worn to the ground.
These Covid days, oh yes, these Covid days.
La la la la la la, la la la la la la, la la la la, la la la la la la.
Now the weary weeks stretch out before us,
We’ve lost the way of life it used to be.
If by chance I sneeze or cough, I’m done for.
It will be the prison bars for me……..
These Covid days, my friend,
We think they’ll never end.
I’m stuck with kids who argue all day long.
I’ve got to cook real food,
I’m always in a mood.
These Covid days, oh yes these Covid days.
La la la la la la etc………..
Just tonight I stood before the mirror.
Nothing is the way it used to be.
My hair is getting rather long and lanky.
Is that scraggy woman really me…….?
These Covid days, my friend,
Oh, please come to an end.
Daytime T.V.? I can’t take any more.
We’ve only just begun,
This isn’t any fun.
These Covid days, oh yes these Covid days.
La la la la la la etc………..
Through the door I checked my stock of chocolate.
Wines and spirits, all ready to go.
Maybe I’ll take refuge in my cupboard.
Life’s not quite so bad, I’ll have you know!
These Covid days, my friend,
They must come to an end
And when they do, you’ll find me sloshed and fat.
They tell me cooking pays,
BUT I WANT TAKE-AWAYS
These Covid days, oh yes, these Covid days.
La la la la la la……..etc.
