Lockdown 2020
Lockdown 2020
What this essential Lockdown has proved to me,
Is how resourceful and kind our neighbourhood can be,
It’s taught us to value all our uniform wearers,
Keyworkers, teachers, community carers,
Without these essential workers there for us,
Who would collect rubbish, deliver post, drive the bus?
This virus doesn’t differentiate how rich or poor we are,
Whether you travel by bus or drive an Aston Martin car.
Such community spirit has flourished all around,
Volunteers, responders, carers, sharers abound
There were community tables out in our neighbourhood,
Folks round here left donations, spared what they could,
And for those in isolation, shielding from infection,
Unable to leave their homes for their own protection,
There is always a neighbour who’ll go and pay a bill
Get the shopping, run an errand, collect essential pills
A variety of requests arise – ‘Have you got plain flour?’
By magic it’s on your doorstep within the next hour!
We’ve connected with neighbours we never knew before,
Rung their bell or knocked, chatted two metres from the door
Simple acts of generosity occur every single day,
It’s a heartwarming feeling being linked this way.
For me, Lockdown has unlocked Britain at its BEST
Let this neighbourhood collaboration continue, that’s my request.
