Slipping the Harness (Lockdown)

Slipping the Harness (Lockdown)

To hug my granddaughter once again
And hear her call me ‘Bampo’
To stand on a chair and play in the sink
Brushing our teeth in tandem.

To sit on Thomas the Tank outside the shop
And feel like the Fat Controller
After the months of chocolate and pop
I’ll barely be able to hold her.

Lockdown’s been long, and stodgy, and boring
And I’ve worn out my eyes on westerns in the morning.
The garden and painting is (partly) done
And today the sun shines, the end won’t be long.

But social distance from the joy of my life? Never.

I've always liked writing short stories, novellas and poems. The community poems on here are really good. So I had to join in!
