What are your all time favourite films?

Mine are "Body Heat" 1981 with William Hurt and Kathleen Turner.

Have seen it at least 15 times and always ready to watch again. Love the suspense and the "noir " aspect of it.

And for a comedy," Trains, Planes and Automobiles" ( think I got the order correct there ! ). Steve Martin and John Candy. Never fails to make me laugh until I cry!

Since I'm an American, most of you probably have British faves. I do like lots of them as well, but the 2 I mentioned remain my faves!

Today’s movies have become too violent and fast -paced for me, much prefer to smile and feel good. The old movies with a couple of exceptions for me:

Brief Encounter with Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant
Oklahoma
2001 A space Odyssey
Seven Brides for seven brothers, beautiful singing and dancing.
Crocodile Dundee
Close Encounters of the third kind
ET
Silent Running
The day the earth stood still with Michael Rennie.
Empire of the Sun with a very young Christian Bale, wonderful movie.
I Robot
Contact
And many, many more.

It's virtually impossible for me to pick even my top 20 favorite films/movies, because there are just so many amazing productions from different genres to choose from. But in my humble opinion these are 20 of my most watched and most impressive. ( Not in order of like)

1. The Deer hunter, 2. Forest Gump, 3. The cruel sea, 4. Where eagles dare, 5. Ice cold in Alex. 6. My neighbour Totoro, 7. Pulp fiction, 8. Dances with wolves, 9. MASH, 10. All the presidents men. 11. Sully, 12. The outlaw Josey Wales, 13. The lady killers (1955), 14. Ground hog day, 15. Ben Hur, 16. 7 Years in Tibet, 17. Munich, 18. Dr Strangelove, 19. The sound of music, 20. Spirited away.
I said it was impossible!! What is your top 20 ? Paul.

I too enjoyed Body Heat but my favourite of all time is The Godfather Part II. The two films that unfailingly cheer me up are Some Like it Hot and National Lampoon's Animal House. So, despite being a Brit, all three are American films!

All good ones. I went to school with one of the Animal House actresses, Martha Smith, she played Babs.

Yes many of the old (30s-40s) films are priceless. My husband enjoys the sci-fi and alien type subjects as do you by the sounds of it, I'm not as interested. Though we understand Avatar, which was a fabulous movie will begin filming a sequel. Think they said it will take til Dec of 2021 to be completed ! The costumes and special effects were unbelievable .
