The Gardening Event

Time for another chortle! Hope you enjoy ..

The Gardening Event

It was a lovely Sunday morning, it was good to be outside,
we agreed to paint the garden fence, it would keep us occupied.
The dog and cat were happy just to watch us from the door
we set to work with brush in hand to start this endless chore.

We chose a lovely colour, a muted shade of green,
rather pretty we both thought the tone was quite serene.
We got into a steady stride and made a good advance,
the fence was looking pretty good, the garden now enhanced.

We took a well earned tea break and sat down on the seat
with fresh coffee and nice biscuits, relaxed and quite replete.
So we both got up and started back, it was like the bridge at Forth,
with no end and no beginning just heading south from north!

It was then I suddenly noticed from the corner of my eye,
a muted green appearance that was drifting quite close bye.
Then there was another who was green as green could be,
the penny dropped and alarm bells rang, it was clear what I could see.

The cat and dog were plastered in fence paint top to tail,
they were heading for the kitchen I had no time to fail.
I sprinted like a mad thing to try block their way,
skidding through the kitchen door, a disaster I would say!

We were running round the dining room like hamsters on a wheel,
the cat and dog now scattering paint with enthusiastic zeal.
Splatter marks were everywhere from ceiling down to floor,
as I tried to head them off they were running out the door.

This continued in bedroom where I continued with the chase,
my cat and dog were loving this so they steadied up their pace.
Puffing like a steam train I was halted in my tracks,
I buckled like a pack of cards and landed in a stack.

The culprits had absconded and they headed back outside,
just relaxing in the sunshine as I stood and nearly cried.
My scallywags looked so sweet all tinged in shades of green,
laying in the golden sun and acting so serene.

My husband smiled and then he said, “ it’s only garden paint”,
I grimace through my gritted teeth but showed a great restraint.
The resolution was to paint the house, but clearly not today,
with a glass of wine now firm in hand that remedy seemed ok.
