Surplus to Requirements

Surplus to Requirements

In my bag there is a little book
Plus a chart upon the wall
Does anybody want them
They are hardly used at all

You see in January
Never sure where I can go
Activities can be cut off
By slippy ice or snow

February much the same
This month I take my pleasure
By staying snug and in my bed
Electric blanket for good measure

By March it’s getting brighter
I am without a doubt
Casting off my duvet
Preparing to go out

I went to get my hair done
All in preparation
Sadly it was next day
They declared isolation

So here I am stuck in the house
No need to check the day
Do you think I will get out this year
Or should I just chuck them away?

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
