Stream the National Theatre free every Thursday
As part of its NT Live programme, the National Theatre is opening its amazing film archives for the month of April and streaming a new play, free, every Thursday.
This is a brilliant opportunity to watch something new while in this period of social distancing, as well as experience something new – many people do not live in London and rarely (if ever) find the opportunity to visit the National Theatre. Now, here’s your chance.
Treasure Island
TWatch Treasure Island, Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure of mutiny, money and murder, brought to life on stage and filmed live at London’s National Theatre.
It’s a dark and stormy night. The stars are out. Jim, the inn-keeper’s granddaughter, opens the door to a terrifying stranger. At the old sailor’s feet sits a huge sea-chest, full of secrets. Jim invites him in – and her dangerous voyage begins.
Treasure Island, adapted by Bryony Lavery and directed by Polly Findlay, is streaming for free from 7pm UK time on Thursday 16 April. Available on demand until 23 April. Perfect for families with children aged 10+.
Treasure Island will be up on YouTube until 23 April
The Schedule
Each Thursday at 7pm a play will be streamed as part of the series National Theatre At Home. The schedule is as follows:
April 2
- ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ by Richard Bean, starring James Corden.
April 9
- ‘Jane Eyre’, adapted by Sally Cookson.
April 16
- ‘Treasure Island’, adapted by Bryony Lavery.
April 23
- ‘Twelfth Night’ by William Shakespeare, starring Tamsin Greig.
How to Watch
You can watch the stream live, for free, on Thursday evenings from the National Theatre YouTube channel. Be sure to bookmark it.
Afterwards, each performance will remain on YouTube for 7 days, so you can watch at a time that’s convenient for you or relive your favourite performances a second time.
