World War Two Hero
World War Two Hero
He walks into the pawnshop
and puts his war medals down
The pawnbroker looks at them
and offers him twenty pounds
He picks up the money
but before he walks out
The pawnbroker asks him
how his medals came about
The old man stands there
then sits down on a chair
and as he begins his story
The pawnbroker stands and stares
I got all my medals
when I fought in world war two
But now because of all my bills
I have to sell them all to you
I fought out in the desert
they call us desert rats
I came close to being shot
but the bullet hit my hat
I fought for King and Country
but now that I am old
My country has deserted me
that’s why medals have to be sold
The pawnbroker picks up the medals
and puts them in the old man’s hand
tells him to keep the twenty pounds
saying you’re a hero to me young man
I am sorry the way you have been treated
that is the Government of today
The old man just smiled at him
then slowly walked away.
