Always Ready for Lunch

Always Ready for Lunch

After flying about all morning, I gave my wings a flap
Returning to my cosy nest, for a little nap
So there was I just gliding, the wind beneath my wings
Thinking about juicy worms n’ other wriggling things

My tummy wasn’t empty,  I could I suppose
Sort my dinner out, when I’d had a little doze
But whilst I was looking down, a bird feeder I did spy
You have to act very quickly or too late is the cry

Therefore I landed very promptly, to have a little peck
But perching on the unit, I damn near broke my neck
I am only wing and feather, I do not need to diet
I’d not scoffed a lot  I hadn’t chance to try it

Hardly opened beak, my cheep was of distress
Can’t believe I’ve ended up in such a dreadful mess
Now I feel embarrassed and my great  desire
Is hope nobody’s noticed ….that I’ve bent the flippin’ wire.

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
