The week that was…

The week that was…

Sitting anxiously
At number 10,
Boris and his tribe of
not so merry men,
They’d thought that failing Brexit
Had been their biggest fear
But they’d no idea that Covid-19
Was lurking close and near.
For into our great country
The virus has swiftly spread
With numbers increasing daily
As most take to their bed.

With each day that passes
We seem to lose control,
We can’t use public toilets
For fear of no loo roll
There’s been mass panic buying
Bog roll has become extinct
And I’m sure no brilliant scientist
Will have envisaged this I think

In stores the shelves are bare now
Not a can of beans in sight
And there’s also been reports of
Many a ‘Check out’ fight
For people have been hoarding
Their trolleys stuffed, piled high
Its Coronavirus hysteria
The general public cry.

Alas where’s all the food gone
The pasta and every tin
I guess its good for losing weight
And as a nation, we’ll be thin!
As for schools and Universities
Do they open or do they close
Let’s ask Boris for his opinion
For surely that man knows
For our great Prime Minister
An Oxford academic
Has taken top advice now
On handling this pandemic
Daily Cobra meetings
Back at Number 10
Show us your true colours now boys
Make decisions, like grown-up men.

Meanwhile in the USA
Trump enforces the ‘Big Word’
And all across America
His strange weird voice was heard
Flights have stopped from Europe
America is now shutting down
Covid-19’s not welcome there
Go on! Get outa town.
Whilst here us UK residents
We’re no longer having fun
Yet our top dogs reassure us
We promise we’re ‘getting things done.’
But what will happen this week
And what will be our fate
Thank God for Sky and Netflix
Whilst we all self-isolate.

Oh no! Another news flash
Can this really be true?
We’re to cancel all our holidays
This applies to the A lister’s too
For planes are turning back mid-flight
and sit empty on the ground
Whilst earth searches for a vaccine
And a miracle cure be found.
They say the virus was prophesied
who’d listen to a raving loon
but now we wish we’d believed it
As the only safe place is the moon

A gift from Wuhan China
A world wide unwanted surprise
we’ve watched devastation unravel
Before our very eyes
But watch out Coronavirus
You have no popularity
The world unites to destroy you
At last global solidarity!
