Life goes on

Life goes on

And even sometimes now, I hear your voice upon the breeze,
The gentle dulcet tones, my listening ears are here to please.
When you whispered all those sweet words, oh so gently by my side,
You promised to be faithful if I’d take you as my bride.

’Twas in good faith I gave my body, heart, and life to you,
Not thinking for one minute, that your promises weren’t true.
Perhaps you believed it all yourself and meant it at the time,
I thought our life was planned so well, together we would climb.

Alas it wouldn’t be that way, because someone came along,
I encouraged you to see him, never thinking it was wrong.
A boy you’d known at school you said, on whom you’d had a crush,
I hadn’t realised, that again, he would turn your heart to mush.

I hear that he has suffered now, as you sent him on his way,
And I heard you moved another in, so quickly, the next day.
I feel so deeply saddened that you choose to live this way,
But please believe me you will find, that eventually you’ll pay.

You’ll end up with a loneliness and with rivers of regret.
I do feel sorry for you, but determined to forget.
