The Christmas Star

The Christmas Star

The little boy knelt by his bed, his head was bent in prayer..
“Dear God, please keep my mummy safe and ~ is my daddy there?”
My mummy said he had to go and help You in the sky.
I know she really misses him ‘cos I sometimes hear her cry.

I don’t want very much for me, still got my pedal car
But do you think you could just spare one shiny bright new star
To put upon my Christmas tree and sprinkle silver light
All over me and mummy as we both sing ‘Silent Night’?”

That Christmas Eve above the clouds, God heard that little voice
And called the Star Commander to help Him make the choice.
They chose the newest, brightest star so full of wondrous light
And said ‘ Now, off you go but you must be there by midnight !’

The little star was awestruck, being chosen in this way
And in all of her excitement, she forgot to ask the way.
She set off down the Milky Way through silky purple sky
Leaving trails of sparkle in her wake as she passed by.

She gambolled in her starlight, her star heart full of joy
And thought how happy she would be to meet this little boy.
She flew into a bank of cloud, around her it was snowing.
She thought ‘It’s just occurred to me, I don’t know where I’m going’

She skidded to a halt and on a moonbeam came to rest
And realised with great sadness she was failing in her quest.
She said ‘ I HAVE to find him, I’ve got to venture forth ‘
When on the breeze she heard the sound of sleigh bells from the North.

She looked along the moonbeam and in the distance there,
She saw a sleigh and reindeer come flying through the air.
The little star was spellbound and as the vehicle neared
She saw that it was driven by a man with silver beard.

He’d twinkly eyes and rosy cheeks, his fur trimmed suit was red
And coming to a halt beside the little star he said
“Just what you may be doing here, I cannot comprehend.
Is there some way that I can help, my little Stellar friend ?”

With starlight dimmed and heavy heart, she told him of her plight.
He laughed and said ~ “ I’m going to that very house tonight!
For in that house, there lives a very special little boy
And this year more than ever, he deserves a little joy.

I know I’ve lots of parcels but there’s room enough for you
So hop aboard, time’s running short and there’s a lot to do!”
The little boy was woken by a strange and tinkly sound.
He crept downstairs and brilliant light was glowing all around.

And there, atop his Christmas tree, all bathed in silver sheen
Was just about the brightest Christmas Star he’d ever seen
And on the floor were many gifts in shiny wrapping clad
But nothing could be better than the star sent from his dad.
