October Revolution

Wrote this a couple of years ago, but not even buying one this year. Will celebrate Christmas just after Easter as hopefully, Coronavirus will have slowed down

October Revolution

I read it in my magazines, so know it must be true
To get your puddings perfect, here’s what you have to do.
Soak sultanas in best cognac, currants in dry sherry
Swallow the leftovers, don’t believe that Mary Berry

Replacing bottle tops, or freezing drops for sauce
Is very, very impolite, (to me it’s rather course)
You must commence October, this fact do not ignore
As the best of Christmas puds, need three months to mature

I’ve done it every year, spent hours doing shopping
Got myself all bothered with the whisking and the chopping
Every utensil out, the scales, plus the pans
For at least a fortnight, cooking beggered up my plans

The pans were all a simmer, the kitchen full of steam
All my fellow cooks will know,  exactly what I mean
This year I’ve put my foot down, well I have binned my whisk
May miss it in a few weeks, but I will take that risk

To buy a pud that’s ready made, is an excellent solution
And that is what I call, my October revolution
I hope that it’s delicious as I do detest a waste
Please pray for me, that it has not, a bad revolting taste.

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
