Miles To Go And Rivers To Cross
Miles To Go And Rivers To Cross
Camping under the vast star filled Montana sky
It was easy to imagine the sounds of range cattle lowing nearby
The huge herds exhausted from walking settling in for the night
Calmed by the Cowboys singing falling asleep under the pale moonlight
During the time of the big drives along well worn trails
Moving the bovines thousands of miles before trains rode the rails
When pioneers had travelled West to claim the free land and hoped for future prosperity
Survived harsh weather starvation diseases and native adversity
They came in chuck wagons with their family and belongings in tow
Travelling alone or joined others across rivers and the endless miles to go
The campfire suddenly crackled and disturbed my reverie
About the American western frontier its settlement and rich history
