The Power of Ritual
The Power of Ritual;
Each morning for the last 6 months or so I have drunk 200 ml of kefir. I reject the usual morning tea in favour of a fermented hissing goats milk which from the reactions of my family is not to everyone’s taste first thing in the morning.
However I’ve now grown used to the tart, fizzy goatiness of the milk the Chuckling Goats of Wales make. I note it’s changing viscosity, how much or how little it’s bubbling, the smell of the milk and its colour. The milk itself is combined with a grain which is grown not manufactured and is entirely organic. I drink kefir due to its probiotic and nutritional benefits ( refer to www.chucklinggoat.co.uk for more details) and because I now enjoy the taste and ‘buzz’ it gives me in the morning.
I drink my kefir from the small jug I use to measure it, that way I can be sure to consume the correct quantity of 170 ml. As I pour the days dose into the jug I hear the clacking sound of Kais claws on the hard kitchen floor as he arrives to inspect the day’s dose. Kai also likes kefir and will follow me around smiling with a toothy grin in the hope I just might let him have the dregs when I’m done. Kai is my ageing black lab, he is almost blind, his hearing is failing but his sense of smell is just as keen as its always been.
