The C.V.

The C.V.

If I had to write a CV, to secure a place in heaven,
Well I don’t remember much at all, before the age of seven.
I guess I’d have to write about, my history from then on,
So that management in heaven, would know of the things I’ve done.

I’d write about my growing up, throughout my teenage years,
I’d write about my hopes and dreams, I’d write about my fears.
I’d write about my parents and the way they guided me,
I’d write about so many things that turned me into me.

The list is long and varied, of the many jobs I’d found,
All of which have helped me, to earn my daily pound.
Help the poor defend the weak, my travels round the world,
The many disappointments, when my dreams just died and curled.

I’ve always hated bullies, with their cold and callous ways,
And I’ve always loved kind gentle folk, so generous with their praise.
Unfair selfish motives, sometimes reared their head,
But usually..common sense prevailed, and they were put to bed.

I’ve learned to love the underdog, to admire the brave and true,
Hating the hyenas, who try to steal from me and you.
I’ve felt the love flood through my soul, when a child is born,
Held the tiny hand of the future, a fresh daisy on life’s lawn.

I’ve met a lot of people, over many many years,
With some I’ve shared their laughter, with some I’ve shared their tears.
I’ve loved the sky, I’ve loved the earth, I’ve loved the deep blue sea,
I wonder if this C.V will get me where I’d like to be.

There’s a few things that I’ve omitted, things of which I’m not too proud,
But then..no one is perfect, and I hope I’ll be allowed.
To meet up with my parents, and other people that I’ve known,
So please give a good reference, should someone up there phone.

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
