Are you a secret snorer?
It’s National Stop Snoring Week, the annual event that raises awareness around health problems related to snoring.
This year, the message is simple – no one needs to suffer as a result of snoring. And we don’t mean by relocating your snoring spouse to another room or buying earplugs!
Snoring is incredibly common, a recent SoClean survey found that nearly half of people over the age of 45 snore, but it can be a warning of a more serious underlying condition, such as obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Despite OSA being most common in men over 40, the survey found men typically under-report their snoring, according to their long-suffering and sleep deprived partners.
OSA is a condition where the throat muscles collapse into the airway during sleep, blocking airflow. This causes a person to stop breathing and interrupt their sleep repeatedly throughout the night.
OSA is linked to various serious health conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
However, these risks can be reduced with effective treatment using Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP).
For CPAP therapy to be safe and effective, it’s advisable to regularly disinfect CPAP machines, which can harbour germs and bacteria when dirty. SoClean is the world’s first automated CPAP cleaner and sanitiser, killing 99.9% of bacteria for effortless and complete daily cleaning.
