Digital healthcare tools
Thanks to devices like smartphones, smartwatches, step counters and heart rate monitors, it’s never been easier to take control of your health and focus on physical and mental wellbeing.
Whether you’re interested in sleeping better, want to improve your flexibility, or need to consult a doctor without leaving home, there are dozens of digital healthcare tools available to help you look after yourself.
Here’s a few of the most popular that can be accessed online or through an app.
GP at Hand
GP at Hand is a new service from the NHS that takes the traditional GP practice and brings it online. You see a doctor via video calling on your mobile, and your prescriptions are delivered to your local pharmacy.
Kaia
Created by health experts, Kaia is an app that uses AI to help you relieve back pain at home. You get a plan that’s tailored to you and will adapt based on your fitness levels, and through the app you get detailed instructions to help turn your home into a gym with no additional equipment.
Headspace
Mindfulness and meditation can help relieve stress, increase your feelings of wellbeing, and cope with life’s challenges. Headspace is one of the best apps on the market for beginners – ten minute guided meditation sessions help you bring some calm in to your life and the concepts are explained simply so it’s easy to understand. Andy, the voice of headspace, is reassuring, and there are sessions to help with everything from soothing a panic attack to getting restful sleep.
Couch to 5k
The Couch to 5K programme proves anyone can run five kilometres no matter what their starting fitness level is. Follow this programme for six weeks and at the end you’ll have gradually built up your endurance levels and be able to run for thirty minutes straight.
Sleep Cycle alarm clock
The Sleep Cycle alarm clock tracks your sleep patterns and wakes you up during light sleep, which helps you to feel more like you’ve woken up naturally. The app offers lots of useful data about how well you slept, how long you slept, when you achieved deep sleep, and so on. It’s a great tool if you have trouble sleeping and want to better understand why, or if you need to wake early and find yourself struggling with your morning alarm.
