E-Type voted greatest British car
The Jaguar E-Type – one of the outstanding vehicles of the 1960s – has been voted the greatest British car by readers of BBC Top Gear Magazine.
The E-Type accelerated away from the challenge of two Aston Martins – the V12 Vantage and the DB5, which were joint second in the survey.
The poll also revealed that Scotland was the best place in the UK to drive, followed by Yorkshire and Humberside and then Wales.
The best music to listen to while driving was considered to come from Queen followed by the Beatles.
But cars could not make it to the top of the ultimate British icon list compiled by the magazine. The top icon was the red telephone box followed by the London bus.
Third was the Houses of Parliament., with fish and chips in fourth place. The Mini car came fifth.
BBC Top Gear magazine editor-in-chief Charlie Turner said: “In a land responsible for the creation of some of the world’s most iconic cars , the Jaguar E-Type still stands out. “
What do you think the greatest British car is that has ever has been built?
