Totes awk

I had to be given an explanation by the younger generation regarding what ‘totes awk’ means – which is a totally awkward situation! So then I thought of this one …

TOTES AWK

Starting on diet, fuelled with great determination
I ordered a black coffee from the cafe in the station
Sat at a table as I waited for the train
Not wanting to spend the time, standing in the rain

A lady bought a cake, a rather large eclair
Feeling rather righteous, I gave a haughty stare
Consuming many calories can affect your health
Was she really going, to eat it by herself

It looked delicious and so light
I scolded self, it wasn’t right
If you want to lose some weight
Don’t pile cakes up on your plate

I licked my lips, then was aware
She’d departed, left a piece still there
With my conscience had a fight
But leaving food…..it wasn’t right

Not for me, but hating waste
I quickly had a great big taste
Then licking cream from off my lips
Prayed please don’t settle on my hips

The plate did not retain a crumb
Then all at once, my knees went numb
She’d returned, oh, what should I do
She’d only been…..to visit the loo

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
