T’was the night before Payday

T’was the night before Payday

Twas the night before payday, when all through the house
Crumbs of food left, not enough for a mouse
The credit card maxed, the overdraft too
Christmas now long gone, and all the cash too..

All the stuff in the freezer, shoved to the back
Replacing the yummies, the cupboards now lack
New recipes surface, ingredients galore
Combined in the pan, like never before

Reassuring ourselves, this is healthy heating
In our minds we’re already preparing for cheating
Coz tomorrow when funds are replenished and good
We’ll buy all those goodies instead of good food

But why wait till morn, to have our desires
When our Tesco Extra open 24 hours
Be ready to go, once that clock strikes twelve
As into our bags we’ll eagerly delve

For car keys or walking shoes, anything, all
Like Cinders we will of course go to the ball
We’ll dance up those aisles from midnight till one
If need be we’ll be there at the rising of sun

So waving goodbye to January Blues
Let February come in with some wonderful news
Spring is in sight, and so is payday
Goodnight and God Bless, Hip Hip Hooray!!!!

I'm an Irish Nana, loving the UK after living in Spain for 14 years. 'Why on earth did you leave there', I hear you ask. The sunshine my two grandchildren bring to my life, far surpasses the rays from the sky. Wherever they are, their Nana will be too!
