Is anyone over 50 doing a University degree?

Good morning fellow surfers. Do we have any mature people over 50 doing or thinking about a university degree? I never had a degree lots of areas of interest thinking of returning to learning and doing a degree as a full or part-time student.

I am aware of the student funding and know that I probably won’t be working for 40 yrs to pay it back but still interested.

Any of my fellow surfers currently doing a degree what are your experiences?

Many thanks

Hi..I’m 71 and will finish my Bachelor Degree on December 11, 2024. My school was interrupted by Covid, a hip replacement and the death of my spouse. Go for it… you will get a sense of accomplishment!

Hi,
I am in my mid seventies and have started an online M.A degree in creative writing with Hull University. I really enjoy it though the computer work drives me nuts. Give me pen and pencil any day. I usually write in pen and pencil and then type it out to send. I studied with the O.U. before this and loved that too.

[I get cross when I think that N. Ireland, Scotland and Wales and get degree study free - so much for a UNITED Kingdom. Yes I did write to my M.P.]

I feel I have learned so much and gained so much confidence in my ability to write. Everyone is so positive. I am not near the top of my group but one day I might be!
GAILSU.

I did a degree online after 50 in Translation and loved every minute. The challenge, the other students, the chat, the interaction with experts in the field - fantastic. Well worth it. You only live once so go for it!

Hello Shazzan,
I just joined this chat room. I responded to a post under the header of education. I was hoping to find more senior-students active today virtually. However, there was just one post, an inquiry regarding starting college. It too, like your own, was posted 2019. I left a message of encouragement, hoping it gets received, as I hope the same for this post to reach you.
Your post popped up right after that!
It was an encouraging message for me.! Instant gratification! Ahh..., I love the way the Universe works in SpiralS!

I am! That is part of the reason I signed up at this site. I was hoping that there would be a larger group of senior students attending virtual college+ here. I got so excited when I came across your post, then I see the date...did you start? Are you attending school virtually?

Hope you get this and it encourages you to start college!

Hi there, I returned to study at age 55 to do my masters part time. I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved feeling young surrounded by so many youngsters some of whom I am still in contact with today. So definitely go for it especially as you can now cover the cost with student finance.
