A Christmas thought
A Christmas thought
The shops are full of Christmas
The lights are shining bright,
Families come together
Homes full of joy and light.
The presents and the crackers
The wine to give us cheer,
And everyone looks hopeful
For another bright New Year.
But some are not so lucky,
Open your eyes and see
The man sat on the pavement
Is not so far from me.
We quickly walk on past them
Afraid of who they are,
We buy our gifts and gadgets
And follow our own star.
And then there are the others
Who this year are alone,
No one to share the magic
No daughter on the phone.
The ones who’ve lost a loved one
May need you as a friend,
grief has no age or boundaries
it starts but doesn’t end.
We sit around our table
Look at the empty chair
be the one who notices,
show your friends you care.
Christmas time is special
But there is one great gift,
The art of understanding
To give frail hearts a lift.
Remember we are lucky
We always have a choice,
A phone call to a loved one
A friendly sounding voice.
So, share the gifts around you
Remember to be kind
Those tiny caring gestures
Bring others peace of mind
