Is it cruel to dress up dogs for Halloween?

Britons will increase their spending on Halloween by 5% on last year to almost £420 million, analysts predict, as the event becomes established on the consumer calendar.

Half of all Britons (52%) spent money on Halloween last year, rising to 77% of millennials and 85% of parents of under-fives, a survey by Mintel suggests.

A quarter (25%) of Halloween buyers spent between £10 and £25 on the event last year,  while 17% between £26 and £50.

It seems that the dressing up element of Halloween has now spread to the canine world with even Pets at Home selling Dog Fancy Dress!

A dog owner has been labelled ‘cruel’ by viewers after dressing up her pooch in a Halloween costume on live TV.

Blogger Kerry Whelpdale, from Brentwood in Essex, appeared on Good Morning Britain with her dog Lulu who was dressed up like a pumpkin.

Speaking on the show, Ms Whelpdale insisted that Lulu enjoys dressing up and feels like she is ‘one of the family’ in her costume.

However, the mother-of-two was branded ‘cruel’ by GMB viewers, who said costumes are ‘degrading’ for animals.
