Hold Me

Hold me

Hold me tight in your heart, do not grieve me,
Keep the love that we have, in your mind,
I am safe in that place, never leave me,
Keep me there, by your side – not behind.

Hold my hand for a while, touch my fingers,
Feel the warmth as our fingertips touch,
In your heart there, the memory lingers,
Of the time when I loved you so much.

Feel my breath on your face, while I was sleeping,
When I lay in your arms, in the night,
Not a time now for crying and weeping,
In remembrance of loving delight.

Hold the thought of our love, just forever,
Keep it deep, locked inside, in your heart,
And so long as you live, do not ever,
Let anyone tear us apart.

Leave me now, let me sleep, in my rapture,
Just a flower you will leave me behind,
But all of my love, and my heart you will capture,
In the tears that you leave in your mind.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
