Should men and women have a different pension age?
For many, retirement is carefully planned around when you’re eligible for the state pension to maximise your income.
The state pension age is currently 65 for men, and for women has been gradually rising from 60 to 65.
By 2020, the state pension age will be 66 for both men and women.
Retirement age varies depending on your situation, and men and women tend to retire at different times, roughly in line with pension eligibility.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the typical retirement age for male workers went up from 63.8 years to 64.6 years between 2004 and 2010.
For women, average retirement age also rose, increasing from 61.2 years to 62.3 years.
What do you think? Should men and women have a different pension age? Or is it fairer that there is one age in which everyone should be eligible?
