How to make spring Daffodils out of egg cups

Gather the grandkids and get crafty this weekend, with our step by step guide to making a beautiful bunch of daffodils…that will never need watering.

You will need:

  • Cardboard egg boxes
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Yellow and orange paint
  • Glue
  • Tissue paper (yellow and green).


A regular-size egg box makes two daffodils.


How to make your flowers:

  1. Cut out two of the ‘cups’ that hold the eggs from a cardboard egg box.
  2. Snip out triangles around the top to leave petal shapes.
  3. Cut out the two ‘prongs’ from the box and cut out small notches to make the flower trumpets
  4. Paint the petals yellow and the trumpets orange.
  5. When dry, glue the trumpet into the centre of the petals and leave to set.
  6. Wrap the pipe cleaners in thin strips of green tissue paper.
  7. Wrap the top 4cm in yellow tissue paper.
  8. Poke a hole in the back of the flower and thread the pipe cleaner through so the yellow section is visible inside the flower – and display as the centrepiece of your room.
