Clever uses for a bar of soap
The humble bar of soap is an inexpensive essential you can find in nearly every household around the country.
While it’s great for washing, there’s plenty of other clever uses for a bar of soap you can try. Here’s a few of our favourites.
Stop squeaky doors
People have used soap to stop squeaky doors for literally hundreds of years. Rub a bar of soap along the hinges to soften the noise.
Help a stuck zipper
Running a bar of soap along your zipper can help loosen it and get it moving again when it’s stuck.
Keep your hands clean for gardening
Try this simple tip to keep dirt and soil out of your nails when gardening or doing other messy jobs with your hands. Run your fingernails over the bar of soap to gently coat them – it will help shield the dirt and make washing your hands afterwards much simpler.
Fix squeaking floorboards
Do you have a floorboard in your home that squeaks? Moisten a bar of soap slightly and work it into the cracks between any floorboards that are squeaking to help eliminate the noise.
Fill a hole
This simple DIY trick can be a huge timesaver. Quickly repair small nail holes in drywall by filling them with soap. Scrape some off with your fingernail and pack it into the hole. Smooth it out and wipe away any residue. That’s it!
Banish foggy mirrors
Prevent a mirror from going foggy in your bathroom with this easy trick. Rub a bar of soap lightly over the mirror, then clean away. It will create a transparent film and keep the mirror looking great.
Fix sticking drawers
Old and antique furniture in particular can be difficult to open and close. Rub soap along the edges of a hard-to-open drawer to help them glide in and out with ease.
