Clever uses for paperclips

Paperclips are a handy office essential, but if you only use them to keep your papers organised, you’re missing a trick.

Today we’re sharing a few of our favourite clever uses for paperclips. Will you give any a try?

Fix your glasses

A loose arm on a pair of glasses can be troublesome and often requires special tools. Instead of a small screwdriver, you can use the end of a paperclip to tighten the screw.

Fasten a roll of wrapping paper

Keep rolls of wrapping paper organised and prevent the ends from damage by securing a paperclip at each end of the roll. It will hold the paper in place and prevent it from unravelling.

Create a makeshift clasp

If you are making craft jewellery or need to fix an old necklace in a pinch, you can make a makeshift clasp by securing a paperclip to each end. Loop one paperclip through the other to hold your item in place.

Close food packets

Plastic food packets can be notoriously difficult to keep shut. Instead of trying to wrestle with the reusable sticker that comes with a loaf of bread or packet of rice, simply unwind a paperclip. You can twist the ends together to keep the food inside fresh.

Fix a zipper

If the zipper falls off an item of clothing, you can quickly replace it by looping a paperclip through the clasp instead. This is also useful for items of clothing that have zippers that are too small.

Keep your tape organised

Trying to find the edge of a roll of tape – particularly scotch tape – can be a hassle, especially when you’re trying to get a task done quickly. To make quick work of this, when you are finished using your tape, wrap a paperclip around the end. Next time, you’ll know exactly where the roll begins and can get at it quickly.

Dip an egg

If you love dying eggs at Easter, this simple trick can make dipping your eggs in different colours easier. Unwind your paper clip until it’s roughly in the shape of a hook, letting the curved hook lay flat instead of horizontal. Rest your egg on it and dip carefully into the dye.
