Clever uses for nail varnish remover

Nail varnish remover is a popular household staple, and if you have a bottle gathering dust in your medicine cabinet, we have a whole host of alternative uses you can try.

From removing stickers to cleaning stained china, here’s our favourite clever uses for nail varnish remover.

Remove stickers

If you’ve ever tried to remove a sticker from a glass jar or other item, you know how frustrating it can be to try and remove the sticky residue left behind. Make easy work of sticker removal by finishing with nail polish remover – it will cut through any remaining glue and leave you with a clean surface.

Sanitise your beauty tools with acetone nail polish remover

Keep your tweezers, nails clippers and other metal beauty tools clean and germ-free by giving them a quick dab with a cotton swab dunked in nail polish remover. Clean with soapy water then dry with a hand towel.

Clean stained china

If you have china mugs that have long since been stained by coffee and tea, try this: soak some nail varnish remover on an old cloth, then dab gently at any stains until they fade away. Wash with soap and water and your china will be restored to its former glory.

Keep your patent shoes shiny

If you need to shine a pair of shoes and don’t have any polish to hand, nail varnish remover is a great alternative. Soak some on a cotton pad and then gently wipe away scuffs and stains.

Remove permanent marker

You can remove permanent marker stains using nail varnish remover. It works well on skin as well as walls and plastic containers as well.

Remove ink stains

Likewise, nail varnish remover is great for removing ink stains in clothing (such as your grandchild’s school uniform!). Dilute some nail varnish remover by adding two parts water to one-part remover, then dab with a damp cloth until the stain gently fades away.

Refresh your nail polish

If you have an old jar of nail polish that has become thick and difficult to use, you can restore it by adding a few drops of nail varnish remover. Start slowly by adding several drops, then let rest. Shake vigorously to mix. Keep adding drops until it’s back to the correct consistency.

Clean a razor

Nail polish remover can act as a simple disinfectant for a dirty razor and can help it last longer. After using, dip into some nail polish remover, rinse thoroughly, then leave to dry.
