Hang in Buttercup!
Hang in Buttercup!
It’s the first week of January
and there’s still lots left to eat.
We’ve munched on crisps and chocolate
until we can’t see our own feet.
We’ve eaten all the good stuff
and we’re left with old mince pies.
(The Terry’s Chocolate oranges
have migrated to my thighs).
The fridge is full of smelly
bits of fancy cheese,
bags of forgotten brussels
that we were going to freeze.
And the shops are full of milkshakes
to replace those fancy dinners.
I can’t see how pureed beetroot
will be a family winner.
The gyms are giving offers
to tempt us through their doors.
To guilt us into joining
and to bin our outsize drawers.
But we are still in winter
so we can cover up
so get out those stretchy joggers
and hang in there Buttercup!
