Corks upon the lawn
Corks upon the lawn
The tolling of the midnight bell..echoes through the night,
Rolling over fields and towns..as another year again..takes flight.
And so a new beginning will unfold as dawn arrives,
Will the coming year be kind to us? Or will it re-arrange our lives?
Will our list of dreams come true for us? Will we get our heart’s desire?
Shall we go for ‘IT’ in this coming year..or shall we just ..hold fire!
Well..holding fire is sensible..but we’ve been holding fire for years,
Let’s have a year when we put aside..our shall we-shan’t we fears.
Let’s love a lot..be kind to all..find room inside our heart,
It will make us stronger..after all..should future problems start.
We all make resolutions..which we really mean to keep,
Our resolve is strong..on New Year’s Eve ..when we lay down to sleep.
We’re going to be stronger..give up harmful things,
Embrace our friends and family..savour the love it brings.
How many resolutions..did we make last New Years Eve,
And how many did we carry out..what did we achieve?
But this New Year will be different..when the old year leaves at last,
This year will be the year for us, last year went by so fast.
All the resolutions..that we were going to enforce,
Were swept aside by circumstance..not our fault..of course.
If we feel our resolve weaken..in the crisp clear light of dawn,
As we wash the empty wine glasses..see champagne corks upon the lawn.
Think of our resolutions..as we put New Years Eve away,
This year we’re going to do it..Starting on this New Years Day!
