A kiss on the wind!

A kiss on the wind!

I felt the kiss you left for me, the one you left beside ‘our tree’,
I saw it when I walked across today,
I saw it blowing in the air, as I walked, (lonely), over there,
Long after you had left it there that day.

I saw the imprint of your lips, that touched along my fingertips,
When I reached to capture this gift within my sight,
And in the bitter winter rain, it seemed that you were here again,
Still by my side, not vanished in the night.

I had nothing else to do today, so I stayed, I didn’t walk away,
All memories were like a waterfall,
Such thoughts were there of love so fine, when we were young and you were mine,
And never leant to solitude at all.

But all too soon the kiss was gone, I left it there and carried on,
To walk among the heather on the hill,
I walk there in your memory and of how much that you mean to me,
And the kiss – that waits upon there – for me still!

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
