Will the addition of Meghan Markle to the Royal Family help modernise the Monarchy?
As one of the most outspoken members of the royal family, Prince Harry is also one of its most popular, and the news we have been waiting for has just been delivered!
He is to marry Meghan Markle, the beautiful American actress. They appeared in their first interview on the BBC last night and seemed very happy and relaxed together, and incredibly down to earth and sincere.
Prince Harry was interviewed by Newsweek earlier in the summer, and what seems to be apparent is that the next generation of Royals has a very different vision for the monarchy in the future.
“We are involved in modernising the British monarchy. We are not doing this for ourselves but for the greater good of the people,” he said, referencing his brother and sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge. He also insisted he wants the monarchy to continue and thrive.
“We want to carry on the positive atmosphere that the queen has achieved for over 60 years, but we won’t be trying to fill her boots,” he continued.
In the interview, he insisted the monarchy was still relevant and that the world needs figureheads like his grandmother the Queen and the royal family. “It’s a tricky balancing act,” he said. “We don’t want to dilute the magic . . . the British public and the whole world need institutions like it.”
The new generation of royals has a huge responsibility and a challenge ahead. Do you think that the addition of Meghan Markle to the Royal Family help modernise the Monarchy? Is tradition more important than modernity? What are your views?
