The Wonder of Autumn
The Wonder of Autumn
Like a kaleidoscope Nature heralds in the Autumn,
Bright shouts of colour in the falling dying leaves:
Crazy reds, gaudy yellows and a rich liquid gold –
God’s masterpiece any artist would be proud to achieve.
Migrating flocks of swallows swooping southwards
Twixt breeding and wintering ground.
For man it’s a time of gathering in and pulling together;
Whilst winds catch seeds and scatters them around.
Icing-sugar trees after Jack Frost comes by
While planet Earth tilts ever closer to the sun.
Branches moaning in the wind; as clouds collide
like percussion movements written exclusively for the drum.
Wispy cirrus clouds form the backdrop
That captures the late sun’s vibrant hues.
A season for the year’s most colourful skies;
From Mackerel Red to Caerulean Blue.
The mellow, messy, leaf-kicking perfect pause;
For this is a peaceful and reflective time.
Tween extremities of Summer and Winter
Till at last the first kiss of April is mine.
