The Senior Ramble

The Senior Ramble

“Come join us on our walk” they said
“We don’t go all that far – five or six miles at most” they said
“With a halfway stop at a bar or cafe for a drink and talk.
It’s really very sociable a slow and easy walk”

So, here I am in my stout shoes I’ve not worn for a while.
I feel a blister coming on, but do my best to smile.
Dark clouds have gathered overhead and it’s begun to rain,
I feel it trickling down my neck – it really is a pain.

Through the wind and rain we tramp as this halfway house we seek
And now my sock feels rather damp – my shoe must have a leak!
A cry goes up from the leading pair –
“Here’s the pub, we’re halfway there”.

I’m cold, I’m wet – my cheeks are rosy,
But here, within’s a roaring fire and everything looks cosy.
They plan a half hour at this pub, which serves “good Food and Beer”
Well, halfway it may be for them – Stuff that, I’m staying here!
