Grandparent’s Delight

To all the Grandparents, that are losing the will
The finish line is now just insight.
The school holiday is now nearly over.
You feel you have lost all your fight.

At first, the dog was excited
But now he’s pretending to sleep
The cats moved in with the neighbour
And the fish are all down in the deep.

My shopping bill has easily doubled
But my cupboards always seem bare
Can we go out for tea, please
Open the purse, and nothing is there.

The bank is looking pretty empty
The money tree is now standing bare
The odds of growing another
I would say are extremely rare.

In your head, you’re still feeling 20
Your body tells you, you’re not,
the end of the day your left wondering what’s happened
The next day you have totally forgot.

Try to make the holidays exciting
make sure we have lots of fun
Don’t plan your holiday around the weather
It’s a bonus if we see any sun.

By now I have an overgrown garden
With a lawn that’s shouting for stripes
Weeds taken over the boarders
But the plums are perfectly ripe.

The house is screaming please clean me
Not had time to give it a good do
A quick wipe round with a duster
Hoping it looks good as new.

I also need some attention
My grey hair has made a return
Also, Nannas growing a moustache,
To the grandchildren, was quite a concern.(he he)

So next week, when they go back to school
Be assured I have plenty to do
There will soon be another school holiday
