Clever uses for cling film
Cling film or plastic wrap is a kitchen staple, used in households all over the country to preserve and protect food.
But if you’re only using it to keep leftovers fresh, you’re missing a trick. Here are our favourite clever uses for cling film.
Protect the table
If you’re in the middle of a DIY project or doing crafts with grandchildren, the table can quickly get out of control with mess. Make your clean up job easier by first covering your table with cling film – when you’re done, you simply remove and throw away, taking the mess with it!
Keep flowers fresh
If you’re bringing flowers to a friend or family member, you can keep them fresh by wrapping the stems in a piece of damp paper towel and then wrapping in cling film to trap moisture.
Remove cork particles from wine
If you have a bottle of wine that has small pieces of cork in it, you can remove the pieces easily with this ingenious trick. Pour the wine into a jug. Ball up a wad of cling film, drop in, and stir. The pieces of cork will get caught in the cling film, making your wine drinkable again.
Protect toilets and radiators
If you’re painting a room with radiators or a bathroom where you can’t move the sink or toilet, protect them quickly and easily by wrapping in cling film instead.
Keep bananas fresh
You can keep a bunch of bananas fresher for longer with this simple trick: cover the stems in plastic wrap. It can help extend their life by several days.
Stop a paintbrush from drying
If you like to paint or are taking on a home DIY project, you can save yourself the hassle of washing brushes and paint rollers when the day is done by wrapping them in plastic wrap instead. The next day, they’ll still be wet and ready to use straight away again.
Keep a draught out
Cling film provides a simple temporary and inexpensive solution for single-glazed windows to keep the draught out. Simply cover the window and then shut curtains or blinds.
Prevent liquids from spilling
If you’ve ever opened your suitcase only to find your shampoo or body-wash has opened all over everything, this trick is for you. Remove the lid of any liquids you’re packing on holiday and wrap with a sheet of plastic wrap. Replace and close the lid and pack for extra protection against spills.
