Your sweet smiling face
Your sweet smiling face
The sun is still shining so bright.
as we hug our children so tight.
The buttercups bloom
just the same as last year.
The rivers still flow
with water so clear.
The birds will keep singing
the songs of the air.
The bees are still feeding
on sweet free nectar.
Life keeps on going,
the beat of our hearts.
The buzz of the traffic,
the noise of the cars.
The shops are all open,
a man collects trolleys.
And children queue up
to buy ice cream and lollies.
Schools are crammed full
with students in chairs,
And bankers research
the stocks and the shares.
The clock keeps on ticking,
the world goes on turning.
The rivers are flowing,
fires keep on burning.
The earth doesn’t know
of the hatred of man,
as families hold on
the best as they can.
The mountains, the canyons
the valleys and plains.
The heat of the sun
and the power of the rain.
The stars in the sky
remain up in space,
as we try to make sense
why we’re here in this place.
And we watch and we wonder
and ask ourselves why,
someone can decide
when it’s our turn to die.
And the years will fly past,
the winters and spring.
In time we will learn
to deal with death’s sting.
But the memories of love
will stay in our hearts.
And the evil will wither
and the sadness depart.
The earth won’t stop turning
on it’s journey through space.
but we’ll never forget
your sweet smiling face.
