The unwavering popularity of Optiflame®
In 1988 Dimplex revolutionised the fires market when it launched the first Optiflame® electric flame effect fire.
Found in a wide selection of Dimplex fires, this award-winning 2D effect has remained the world’s favourite.
Improved and perfected since its launch, Optiflame generates realistic simulated flames from an electric source, creating the illusion of flames emanating from the centre of an enhanced depth fuel bed.
Optiflame fires and stoves, such as the contemporary and compact Brayford stove, bring a touch of elegance to any living area. Because they are electric, they require no installation; you simply plug them in and turn them on. The range includes a collection of freestanding fires, suites, and stoves, all 100% efficient at point of use with a choice of heat settings, and up to 2kW output from the heater which provides a considerable level of secondary heating to a room. The flame effect and heat can also be remotely controlled on certain models across the range.
As feature fireplaces continue to be a popular choice for homeowners, the need to progress towards a more efficient and cost effective Optiflame was recognised in order to maintain its status as the world’s number one electric fire.
One refinement, which enhances the flame effect can be seen in the Stockbridge cast iron style stoves. The Stockbridge, which is available with real coals or a log fuel effect, is already a popular choice amongst homeowners, but has been further improved by the addition of a toplight to the inside of the stove. This helps to give the impression of a much brighter fire which helps to further sell the illusion of the Optiflame effect.
But the most recent refinement to the range has seen Dimplex update all models in its Optiflame range, with high efficiency LED lighting. Unlike old light bulbs, these LED lights will not need to be changed.
The transition to LEDS also means it is even more cost effective to run the low maintenance flame effect all year round. Using just 7-9 watts per hour on a Dimplex Optiflame flame effect only setting means homeowners can gain eight hours usage for as little a 1p on those days when you want the ambience of a fire, but do not require the additional heat. The Danesbury range of inset fires for example, draw just seven watts when the LED flame effect is used independently of the thermostatic fan heater, so are a really cost effective way to generate a cosy ambience in your favourite room, even if you are relying on the central heating for your warmth.
