Tired bricks
Tired bricks
It was just a row of houses, with tired bricks and old blue tiles,
But it housed such happy people, with their cheerful loving smiles,
They didn’t seek for riches, for they had to pay the rent,
Nor did they need the ermine coat, to make them feel content.
As long as they had neighbours, who would call along the way,
For a ‘cuppa’ and a ‘natter’ in the middle of the day,
As long as there were folk to check to see they were alright,
Not only in the daytime, but also in the night.
As long as they could borrow from each other, to get by,
If they had it, they would lend it you – and never question why,
For what was theirs, was yours as well, for all were equal made,
And it was share and borrow – and greed was not displayed.
I think sometimes the friendliness, was better in that day,
And people worked together more, and shared a better way,
There was no such thing as selfishness, that seed they did not sow,
Not in the happy people homes – in that tired old long row!
